Biographie

Kaïs Demers performs regularly in Canada and Mexico as a soloist, chamber musician and orchestral musician. He performs predominantly with l'Orchestre Symphonique de Montréal, l'Orchestre Symphonique de Québec, Les Enfants Terribles, Erreur de Type 27 and Le Quatuor National du Mexique, and he is at home in a variety of styles from classical to contemporary. During his education, Kaïs has performed in masterclasses given by several internationally renowned clarinetists, including Alfred Prinz, Wolfgang Meyer, James Campbell, Robert Spring, Robert Riseling and André Moisan.

At the end of his studies at the Conservatoire de Musique de Québec, under the tutelage of Marie Picard, Kaïs was unanimously awarded both the Prix en Clarinette and the Prix avec Grande Distinction en Musique de Chambre, as well as the Bourse d'Excellence 2003, awarded by the Association des Anciens du Conservatoire de Musique de Québec. He pursued further studies at the Université de Montréal under clarinetist and conductor André Moisan, where, in 2004, he obtained a Diplôme d'Études Supérieures Spécialisées in Interprétation.

Since 2004, Kaïs has been completing his doctoral studies, supervised jointly by André Moisan and Caroline Traube. His research is focused on the performance of mixed music as a way of extending the timbral possibilities of the clarinet by means of electroacoustics. Kaïs has collaborated in research projects with OCIM, LIAM, and CIRMMT. Kaïs is become recognized abroad this year through a mixed media performance with GEMDays in Huddersfield (UK), and in 2006 and 2007 through various conferences, masterclasses and recitals presented for the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México, the Universidad Autónoma del Estado de Hidalgo and the Banda Sinfónica de la Secretaría de Marina de México.
